The Papa Bear Chair (aka Teddy Bear Chair, or AP-19) was designed by Danish furniture designer Hans Wegner (1914-2007) in 1951. It got its name after a critic described the armrests as “great bear paws embracing you from behind”.  It features a wide seat, high back, and armrests nicely detailed with a plate of teak at the ends to protect the upholstery.  It was in production until 1969, and then reissued along with matching ottoman in 2003.  It was originally manufactured with beech, and more recently with teak, oak, and rosewood. What a beautiful example of mid century design!
